The Google Contest
In case you haven't heard, Google is running a really cool contest where they're giving away $10 Million to the person who submits the "best" idea. Looks to me like "best" is based on how many people the idea helps and how deeply the idea can impact the lives of others.
There are so many amazing ideas out there, it can really boggle your mind. How many times has each of us had an idea and maybe let that little voice in your head talk you out of it?
"That'll never work."
"Somebody's probably already doing it."
"I just don't have the time/resources to make it a reality."
Man, that voice really sucks sometimes (most times), doesn't it? More often than not, we just need to tell that voice to shut up, and take action anyway. I think if we all were to follow our guts more, and follow our hearts more, and listen to that little voice less, it would make a big difference.
If you have an idea that's been bubbling in your head, don't let it die in there. Do something with it. If you don't think you can make it work or do anything with it, and you can't get beyond that belief, then share it with somebody that might be able to use it.
Post it on your favorite blog, do it anonymously if you want to. But share it. You never know what can make a big difference, either in the world, or in the life of an individual.
There will probably be many amazing ideas that come to fruition through that Google contest. And, wouldn't it be a nice side-effect if more ideas started to see the light of day as a result of the contest, and more people started asking themselves, "What can I do to make the world a better place? to help others?"
Good for Google on this one!
